Water Quality Call to Action

Our rivers are in trouble, and they need your help. In colonial times, the waters from our rivers were so pure they were prized for long sea voyages. Now, our water quality is being degraded by rising water temperatures, stronger storm events, increased runoff, and more frequent flooding. The algal blooms we are seeing here in the warmer months are sure signs of a sick river. These algal blooms are a threat to fisheries, recreation, property values, human health, and our regional economy.

Click here for more information on the algal blooms.

Our prosperity and quality of life depend on healthy waterways. We need action NOW to protect our rivers. That’s why the Boards of Commissioners of Chowan, Gates, Tyrrell, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden, Currituck & Washington plus the Town of Edenton, the Currituck Chamber of Commerce, the Albemarle District of Soil & Water (which represents Chowan, Perquimans, Pasquotank, Camden and Currituck) and the Pasquotank Soil & Water Conservation District have adopted a resolution asking our state senators and representatives to work in partnership to secure funds to help our rivers.

Please add your voice to theirs by signing the call for action at the link below. Individuals and organizations are welcome to join this effort.
