Roots & Shoots
“Bottle Graveyard” Project - Northeastern Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies, Elizabeth City, NC
Empowering young people
Roots & Shoots is a program developed by Jane Goodall and sponsored by the Jane Goodall Institute to empower young people to become compassionate leaders and make positive changes in their communities.
In the Roots & Shoots model, students are encouraged to identify issues which affect the people, animals, and environment in their communities. The students then create projects to address those issues, put their plans into action, and celebrate as the projects are completed.
The Roots & Shoots model helps students understand they have the power to build a better world by making change happen, right in their own communities.
Green Saves Green is pleased to be part of the Roots & Shoots community. We helped start a local Roots & Shoots project in early 2022, and aim to add more projects in 2023. If you would like to plan a Roots and Shoots project, we want to help you! Educators and leaders of community youth groups in Pasquotank or Camden County are eligible to apply, now through Nov 30, 2022.
