GSG Has Adopted A Trail

Green Saves Green, in collaboration with College of the Albemarle and Pasquotank County, has adopted the Fenwick-Hollowell Wetlands & Pasquotank River Boardwalk Trail.

Our vision for the adoption is to ensure the trail remains environmentally sustainable. The purpose of the adoption is to show the importance of protecting our local wetlands, and to maintain and improve the trail through regular litter sweeps and site repair assessments.

The trail is located behind the College of the Albemarle campus and Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City. There are three entrances, one handicapped accessible, identified with signage. Benches, gazebos, and a deck are all available to sit, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Watch for herons, egrets, eagles, hawks, turtles, and maybe even an otter or beaver. Be sure to bring along a pair of binoculars as the Fenwick-Hollowell Wetlands is an official NC Birding Trail.

The first section of trail was constructed in 2001, the second section completed in 2003, and the final section was completed in 2005 resulting in a seven-foot-wide, one-mile loop. The trail has undergone a recent renovation, replacing all of the wooden boardwalk.
